The SHS Summer Internship Program

Sullivan Higdon & Sink locations:
255 N. Mead, Wichita, KS
2000 Central, Kansas City, MO

Catch 22 isn’t just a section from the American Lit course you took sophomore year. No, it’s more like the predicament thousands of wide-eyed college graduates find themselves in every May – how do I land a job without relevant work experience, and how do I gain work experience before landing a job?

At Sullivan Higdon & Sink, we hate conundrums like this almost as much as we hate sheep. And we really, really hate sheep. That’s why every year we offer a few select individuals the opportunity to separate themselves from the faceless pack of their peers. We call it our summer internship program, and it’s much more than just four months of padding for your resume.

As an intern at SHS, you won’t be sent on any coffee runs or handcuffed to a Xerox machine. This is real-world, as-gritty-as-it-gets work experience, the kind that requires you to roll up your sleeves and keep your nose to the grindstone. You’ll be entrenched with an actual team working on an actual account making actual American dollars.

It’s actually hard work, but the rewards almost always outweigh the effort.

That being said, if there’s anything we believe in (besides the global eradication of ovis aries), it’s balancing work and life. Which means a long afternoon of client meetings often meets its end with an intense game of foosball. Creative brainstorming sessions tend to migrate to the local watering hole. And the agency itself hosts happy hour every Friday.

So, if differentiating brands from the homogenous flock of forgettable advertising is something you can get down with, we might have a spot for you on our team. We only ask that you’ve completed at least 90 credit hours before applying, and that you’re willing to sacrifice the chunk of your summer beginning the Tuesday after Memorial Day and ending late August.

If you think you fit the bill, download the internship application, fill it out and return it to Donna Montgomery, donna.montgomery@shscom.com. Good luck, and happy sheep slaying.

Deadline for the 2010 Internship applications will be Monday, February 15, 2010.
